On Christmas Eve our new family member decided to come out of his nest to say hello. A while back someone gave two love birds to my husband, at least I think they are love birds, in Italian they are called "pappagallino verde africano. Anyways, I decided to call them Fred and Ethel, like from "I Love Lucy" because to me they sound like they are always fighting. A while back, Ethel started to stay in the nesting box all the time so we knew she had to have some eggs in there. We did not think they would make it because it is winter and very cold. Well to our surprise, they survived and there are three new little birds. At first we just heard the peeping sounds, we thought there was just one, but when they started to stick their heads out of the box we saw two, and today I saw the third. The little yellow one was the bravest of the three and came out of the nest today, his brothers or sisters are still in the nesting box.
The one with the stripes on the wings and green tail is the father and the other one is the baby, however he or she seems bigger than dad.
Here is the mother in the nesting box with the other two, and she is all white. The other two, from what I can see seem to be a mixture of white and green like both the parents.
And of course Ms KiKi is always on bird watch because the bird cage is in front of the window. Don't worry, she can't reach.
